Rumors and speculation have swirled for months—actually it seems like forever at this point—about the mysterious Nintendo NX. What will it be? How will it work? Well, today we got our first official update and a teaser video. The device will be called the Nintendo Switch, and it will be released in March of 2017.
So, it seems from the video that at home the Nintendo Switch sits in a dock connected to your TV while you use either a wireless Xbox-like controller, or the controllers from the sides of the base—which also disconnect and work wirelessly.
If you want to take your gaming on the road, you can just click the controllers on the sides of the base unit and voila! You have yourself a supersized portable gaming unit. It has a little kickstand on the back so it can stand on its own, and you can disconnect the controller units from the side and use them wirelessly, so you can still kick back and play rather than holding the entire base unit in your hand.
Compared with the Xbox and Playstation gaming consoles, the Nintendo Switch concept is definitely unique and innovative. What remains to be seen is whether or not game developers will embrace it, and whether Nintendo will have any more success winning customers with the Nintendo Switch than it has with the Wii U.
What do you think? Does this look interesting? Are you excited to get your hands on one in March?
